RECOMMENDED SERVICES First 1,000/5,000 Mile Checkup

Click on the link at the bottom of this page to schedule your service.

Below is the recommended maintenance for the first 1,000 mile check-up on your new Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. Our service department can make these necessary adjustments any time.

Replace oil filter.

Inspect air cleaner and service as required.

Inspect brake pad linings and discs for wear.

Inspect oil lines and brake system for leaks.

Lubricate the front brake hand lever, the throttle control cables and the clutch control cable.

Check engine idle speed.

Check battery electrolyte level and clean connections. (on FLT only)

Check operation of electrical equipment and switches.

Check tightness of all fasteners, except engine head bolts.

Check tire pressure and inspect tread.

Check rear drive belt.

Change transmission lubricant and clean magnetic drain plug.

Inspect fuel valve lines and fittings for leaks.

Check rear shock absorbers.

Check brake fluid reservoir levels and condition.

Lubricate Springer® steering head bearings.

Check stabilizer links and engine mounts.

Check primary chaincase, lubricate and clean magnetic drain plug.

Check wheel spoke tightness.

Check cruise control/disengage switch.

Check rear fork pivot nut.

Check air suspension for correct operation and leakage.

Check idle speed.

Lubricate jiffy stand.

Road test


At Least Every 10,000 Miles

Below is the recommended maintenance for every 5,000 miles on your Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. To schedule this service on your bike click on the SERVICE APPOINTMENT REQUEST link at the bottom of this page . We can service your motorcycle at any of our locations! We hope to see you soon!

Change engine oil.

Change engine oil and oil filter.

Inspect air cleaner and service as required.

Clean tappet oil screen.

Change primary chaincase lubricant and clean magnetic drain plug.

Check/adjust primary chain.

Check clutch adjustment.

Change transmission lubricant and clean the magnetic drain plug.

Check and adjust belt.

Lube the foot shift/brake lever bearings and speedometer cable.

Check rear brake pedal adjustment.

Inspect brake pads and discs for wear.

Check brake fluid reservoir levels and condition.

Inspect oil lines and brake systems for leaks.

Lubricate the front brake hand lever, throttle control cables, throttle, clutch control cable and hand lever and jiffy stand.

Lubricate Springer steering head bearings.

Check, adjust operation of enrichener.

Inspect fuel valve, lines and fittings for leaks.

Clean fuel tank filter screen (carb. only).

Check operation of all electrical equipment and switches.

Check battery electrolyte level and clean connections.

Change spark plugs.

Check tire pressure and inspect tread.

Check wheel spoke tightness.

Repack wheel bearings with grease.

Inspect, adjust, repack front fork bearing.

Change front fork oil.

Repack rear fork bearings.

Adjust Springer rocker bearings.

Check condition of rear shock absorbers.

Check air suspension -- pressure, operation and leakage.

Check stabilizer links and engine mounts.

Check tightness of all fasteners except engine head bolts.

Lubricate hinges, latches -- fuel door, Tour-Pak, saddlebags.

Check ignition timing and vacuum hose.

Check engine idle speed adjustment.

Road test.
